TYPE:  4 cylinder O.H.V.

CUBIC CAPACITY:  1499.9 cc (91.53 cu ins)

COMPRESSION RATIO:  8.3:1 (high), 7.0:1 (low), 9.0:1 (GT).  High and Low ratios increased on later cars to 9.0:1 and 7.5:1 respectively.

MAXIMUM BHP:  59.5 nett @ 4600 rpm (high compression ratio 8.3:1). 64.0 nett @ 4600 rpm on later cars with 9.0:1 high compression ratio.  78 nett @ 5200 rpm for GT.

MAX TORQUE:  81.5 lbs @ 2300 rpm.  97 lbs @ 3600 rpm for GT

COOLING SYSTEM:

Pressurised cooling system with pump impeller and fan assisted.  Capacity; 10.5 pints (5.966 litres)

FUEL SYSTEM:

TYPE:  Mechanical fuel pump.  Tank capacity; 8 gallons (36.67 litres). 

CARBURETTER:  Zenith 33VN2 downdraught on Standard and Deluxe.  Weber 28/36 DCD22 dual choke downdraught on GT

TRANSMISSION:

CLUTCH:  Single dry plate, 7.25 in diameter, hydraulically operated.

GEARBOX:  4 forward and one reverse, all synchromesh. Column lever or central remote floor lever.

GEAR RATIOS:  1st 3.543:1, 2nd 2.396:1, 3rd 1.412:1, 4th 1.000:1, reverse 3.963:1

AUTOMATIC:  Borg Warner Type 35.

REAR AXLE: 

TYPE:  Semi floating, hypoid final drive.

RATIO: 3.900:1 (standard ratio)  or  4.125:1 (optional)

BRAKES, SUSPENSION & STEERING:

BRAKES:  Ford Girling 9.5 ins self adjusting discs front & 9 ins ins drums rear (servo assisted on GT). 

WHEELS:  13 ins pressed steel.

TYRES:  5.60 x 13 4 ply crossply, tubeless.

SUSPENSION:  Independent MacPherson Strut front with Anti roll bar and hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers.  Asymmetrical semi-elliptic leaf springs with hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers.

STEERING:  Recirculating ball type. Ratio 15.1:1.  Turning circle; 36 feet.

 

COACHWORK & EQUIPMENT:  (All Models)

PAINT:  Initially available in 11 single colours: Ermine White, Platinum Grey, Ambassador Blue, Aqua Blue, Spruce Green, Glacier Blue, Windsor Grey, Imperial Maroon, Tuscan Yellow, Goodwood Green and Monaco Red.  In addition, 5 two tone combinations could be ordered at extra cost on the deluxe model: Imperial Maroon/Platinum Grey, Platinum Grey/Ermine White, Spruce Green/Ermine White, Ambassador Blue/Platinum Grey and Aqua Blue/Ermine White.

JACK:  Screw type with two jacking points on either side. Standard tool kit; Jack, Wheel Brace and hub cap remover.

EXTERIOR LIGHTS:  2 Head (sealed beam units), 2 side, 2 stop/tail, 2 indicator flashes, 1 number plate.  Boot lit by reflected light.

WINDSCREEN WIPERS:  Twin electric with rheostat variable control.

INSTRUMENTATION:  Speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge.  Warning lights for oil pressure, main beam, ignition and direction indicators.

CONTROLS:  Steering column 'antenna' incorporates switches for side lights and headlights (both main and dipped) and self cancelling indicators. On the end of the antenna is a button which operates the horn (standard model) or the headlamp flasher (deluxe). The deluxe model has a horn ring. From October 1965, the antenna was replaced by a stalk.  Choke.

SEATING:  Split squab bench front seat for 2 door model, (full bench for 4 door model).  Cirrus 500 PVC upholstery.

MISC:  Hinged 'non draught' quarter lights to front doors and fixed quarter vent at rear (opening on 2 door model), glove box, sun visor, rear view mirror, ashtray, interior light, combined arm rests/door pulls, hytone PVC/rubber floor covering. 

EXTRAS FOR DELUXE:

Twin spray windscreen washer with plunger operation, two tone interior trim schemes, coat hooks, two sun visors, door operated courtesy light, three ashtrays, horn ring, dual tone horn, full width parcel shelf beneath the dash, fitted loop pile carpet and two tone exterior paint schemes.

EXTRA FACTORY FITTED OPTIONS:  (at extra cost)

Heater and demister, white wall tyres, remote floor shift with bucket seats, two tone paint scheme, automatic transmission.  NB The heater/demister became general equipment in 1965. Cigarette lighter, laminated windscreen, radio, over-riders, cloth trim, locking petrol cap.

Many other extras were available from Ford Dealerships.

NB.  The optional extras, both factory fitted and those offered through dealerships did vary during the manufacture period. Some items which were originally extras became standard equipment when the interior was redesigned for 1965.  Also, new extras became available which were not offered when the car first rolled off the production line.

 

GT:  The GT model was only available with remote floor change and bucket seats and in addition to the above instrumentation was also equipped with a tachometer, ammeter and oil pressure gauge.  In 1965, two new metallic colours, Alcuda Blue and Malibu Gold became options as did Carlton cloth trim.
